Play 10 minute word sound games

When children learn to read, they break words down into sounds and letters (phonics).

The reading staircase is used to help children learn to read, by breaking down words. The steps include practising:

  • Syllables
  • Rhyming
  • Alliterations
  • Onset-rime
  • Sound Identification
  • Blending Sounds

About learn word sounds games

Playing word sound games can help a dyslexic child to learn reading. The games take just 10 minutes to play and can be played each day. The activities below are designed to help you play word sound games.

The three activities take just 10 minutes per day.ย They can be completed using the links to the activities taken fromย Mooki cards.ย Follow the top tips below when completing the activities with a dyslexic child:

  • Aim to try three puzzles in 1 week, what days will you play?
  • Do them with the child, in a quiet place with no distractions.
  • Do each game on different days, to stop the child becoming overwhelmed.
  • Play the games together so the child does not even realise they are learning.
