Signs of Dyslexia in 5 Year Old Child

Children can show the signs of dyslexia at 5 Years old. I spotted the signs in my little girl before she started primary school. It is important that children get help as early as possible with dyslexia. Helping them to build strong foundations in reading and writing.

A child can not be formally diagnosed with dyslexia until they are aged 7. However if they are struggling in class extra support can be offered. Such as extra one to one reading, to help them learn how to read.

Signs of Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a learning disability that affects how people read, write, and spell. It is a lifelong condition that is not caused by a lack of intelligence or motivation. People with dyslexia can be of average or above average intelligence, but they may still struggle with certain academic tasks.

The signs of dyslexia can vary from person to person, but some common symptoms include:

  • Difficulty recognising letters and words
  • Difficulty sounding out words
  • Difficulty reading fluently
  • Difficulty spelling words correctly
  • Difficulty writing legibly
  • Difficulty organising thoughts
  • Difficulty following directions
  • Difficulty paying attention

It is important to note that not all children who have dyslexia will exhibit all of these symptoms. Some children may only have a few symptoms, while others may have many.
